The Aerogen Nebulizer is an advanced aerosol drug delivery system designed for efficient and effective nebulization of medication. Utilizing vibrating mesh technology, it generates a fine mist of medication particles, ensuring optimal drug delivery to the lungs.
Key Features:
- Vibrating Mesh Technology: Uses a patented vibrating mesh with thousands of precision-formed holes to create a fine aerosol without the need for a compressor or added airflow.
- Silent Operation: Unlike traditional jet nebulizers, the Aerogen system operates silently, making it ideal for use in critical care settings.
- Consistent Particle Size: Delivers aerosol particles in the optimal range (~3-5 microns) for deep lung penetration.
- Wide Compatibility: Can be used with ventilators, high-flow nasal cannula systems, and as a handheld nebulizer with the Aerogen Ultra or mouthpiece attachment.
- Medication Versatility: Compatible with a wide range of medications, including bronchodilators, steroids, and mucolytics.
- No Added Gas Flow Required: Works independently without interfering with patient oxygenation or ventilation parameters.
Common Models:
- Aerogen Solo: A single-patient-use nebulizer designed for hospital and ICU settings.
- Aerogen Ultra: A handheld accessory that allows patients to use the Aerogen Solo with a mouthpiece.
- Aerogen Pro: A multi-patient-use system designed for long-term use in clinical settings.
Applications:
- ICU and Emergency Care
- Ventilator-Dependent Patients
- Pediatric and Adult Respiratory Therapy
- Homecare (with certain compatible devices)
Effectiveness
Aerogen facilitates effective medication delivery across multiple respiratory modalities3-8†
- In studies, ~4x more drug deposition was achieved with Aerogen during IMV,†3,4 NIV‡5, and HF,6 and ~6x more drug deposition during SV‡7 versus jet nebulisers
‡Study performed in healthy subjects
Patient care
Aerogen improves patient care in response to aerosolised medication9-11
In studies assessing bronchodilator delivery across several respiratory modalities, Aerogen Solo, when compared with jet nebulisers, was associated with:
- Improvements in lung function in patients undergoing NIV†9
- Comparable bronchodilator efficacy‡ during HF10
- Reductions in hospital admission rates, emergency department median length of stay, and in the number of treatments and time required to achieve symptom control§ in SV patients¶11
†Between-group difference in FEV1, FVC, breathlessness score, RR, and PaCO2 from baseline to 120 minutes in patients with acute exacerbation of COPD
‡As defined by relative increase in FEV1 in patients with reversible obstructive lung disease
§Defined as achieving a mild asthma score following an asthma exacerbation
Workflow
Aerogen simplifies the workflow
- Aerogen Solo is a closed-circuit aerosol drug delivery system,2 which eliminates the need to open the circuit when administering medication during IMV or NIV
- Aerogen Solo delivers integrated aerosol delivery with HF and can be used in conjunction with Aerogen Ultra for aerosol drug delivery in SV patients2
- Aerogen Solo is intended for the aerosolisation of physician-prescribed medications for inhalation which are approved for use with a general purpose nebuliser2
- One system can be used throughout a patient's respiratory journey (IMV, NIV, HF, SV),2 supporting continuity of care
